...seems my Xbox 360 problems are even worse than I thought.

I finally was able to get the console to go to the dashboard and I checked my hard drive.

First thing, my Xbox Live profile on the HDD was corrupt.

I figured, if I delete this and redownload my profile, the problem would be fixed.

Turns out, I can't do that unless I download a system update.

I tried a dozen times and it wouldn't download.

I think my console may be busted.

Problem is, it's not under warranty, I can't afford to pay to get it repaired, and my parents refuse to pay for anything for the console, including repairs.

So, that pretty much means I'm screwed as far as my console goes.

Not a good start to the day, unfortunately.

Here's a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz as compensation for reading.

You plugged directly into the network or trying to download over wifi?

Can't plug in. Too far away. The console has to use wifi to connect to the internet, and the download still fails.

Don't have an Xbox One, nor can I afford one.

Gamestop has refurbished 4GB consoles for $129, and that's for the latest generation 360 that they released at the same time they released the XBone. I don't know if you download a ton of movies or install all your games, but I've done fine with a 4GB console + a 32GB flash drive I plugged into the back.

I can't even afford a refurbished one, that's how broke I am.

A 4GB console and 32GB flash drive won't cut it. I've got 160GB left on a 250 GB HDD.

If I could afford the refurbished one, I could take the 250GB HDD out of the old console and put it in the 4GB, since the 4GB drive is built into a different part of the console, so I've heard, which would give me a little more space than I have now.

Try moving it and plug directly in for troubleshooting. If you have a partially corrupted system it could be screwing with the wifi drivers and you may be able to gimp it back together by direct connection. If that doesn't work try the onboard format (you'll lose data). If that doesn't work, plug the disc into a PC and see what's going on.

If it's a new-ish problem, they might repair it for free. I had to send mine in for a graphics card error one time, and it just so happened that the cards had only started failing recently, so they took in the first hundred or so completely for free - even without the warranty - in order to test the new repair. I even got mine back in under a week.

I searched the internet, people have been having these sort of issues for years.

Articles and topics from as far back as 2008.
